Pyrotechnics etc.: German clubs fined €12 million by DFB

Last season in 2024-25, the German professional football club was fined 12 million euros ($14.1 million) by the German Football Association, mainly for using prohibited pyrotechnics during matches.

The German Football Association said this amount is slightly lower than the 12.5 million euros fined against the three top league clubs last season in the 2023-24 season.

Cologne was fined the highest amount at €924,355, followed by Frankfurt (€764,600) and Hamburg ($623,555). Cologne and Hamburg were both in the second division last season.

In the 2024-25 season, the total revenue of the third division increased from 1.5 million euros to 2.24 million euros, of which Dynamo Dresden earned 428,460 euros. Fines for Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 clubs were reduced by approximately €1 million.

Clubs were able to spend a percentage of their fines on violence prevention measures, meaning the DFB ended up receiving around €8 million. Of this amount, €6 million was donated to the Football Foundation.
