PS6, Next-Gen Xbox Will Reportedly Launch in 2027; Xbox ‘Magnus’ Said to Be More Powerful, More Expensive

Microsoft revealed its plans for the next Xbox console earlier this year, while Sony this month hinted at the next PlayStation console. Now, two different sources claim that the PlayStation 6 and next-gen Xbox will be coming earlier than expected, with a launch planned for 2027.

PS6 expected to launch in 2027

KeplerL2, a reliable source who leaked PS5 Pro specs ahead of its launch, claimed last week that Sony plans to launch the PS6 in 2027 (via VGC ). The leaker’s comments were made in a NeoGAF thread discussing Sony and AMD’s recent graphics technology videos, in which Mark Cerny said these innovations will appear in “future consoles in a few years.”

Responding to a user who suggested the PS6 could launch in 2027, the leaker said a 2027 launch for the next-generation PlayStation console is “not just on the table, but planned, barring any unexpected delays.”

The same tipster made similar claims earlier this year, when they said the PS6 chip design was ready and Sony could launch the console in 2027.

Xbox ‘Magnus’ expected to release in 2027

Separately, YouTube channel Moore’s Law Is Dead , known for its accurate coverage of gaming hardware, leaked details of the “AMD Magnus APU” said to power the next-generation Xbox console. The leaker showed off leaked images of the chip, discussed performance targets and specs, and claimed that the next Xbox is scheduled to launch in 2027.

“It’s targeting a 2027 release,” the leaker said. “I want to clarify that since I recently posted the Xbox Magnus video and the RDNA 5 video, I’ve heard from more sources that Microsoft is talking to partners behind the scenes and has publicly stated that Xbox Magnus will be released in 2027.”

Next-gen Xbox is more powerful than PS6

In addition, the leaker claims that the next generation Xbox will be “more powerful” than the PS6, but will also be more expensive. The console will also reportedly run as a PC/console hybrid – something Microsoft has suggested.

“I do expect Xbox Magnus to be basically a more advanced version with the same performance as the PS6,” the leaker said. They added that the next-gen Xbox’s performance advantage over the PS6 will be reflected in its PC-specific features.

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced a partnership with AMD to develop a next-generation Xbox console that would not be locked to a single store or device, demonstrating that the open platform could support third-party stores like Steam.

Xbox president Sarah Bond hinted that the next Xbox will be a Windows-centric device.

“It’s all about creating a gaming platform that’s always with you, so you can play the games you want wherever you want, across devices, giving you an Xbox experience that’s not locked into a single store or tied to one device,” Bond said in a June statement.

“That’s why we’re working closely with the Windows team to ensure Windows becomes the number one gaming platform.”
