Prince scores 22, Nebraska women beat Richmond at NCAA First Four

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Brit Prince scored 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting, Nebraska opened the third quarter with a 17-0 run and the Cornhuskers beat Richmond 75-56 in an NCAA Final Four game on Wednesday night.

No. 11 seed Nebraska (19-12) will face No. 6 seed Baylor in the Round of 64 on Friday. Coach Amy Williams, in her ninth season with the program, has led the Cornhuskers to five of 18 NCAA tournament appearances and two of 10 wins, including a 61-59 first-round victory over Texas A&M in 2024.

Prince went around a screen, was fouled on a jump shot from the free throw line, and drained a three-pointer to open the second half. With 4 minutes and 42 seconds left in the third quarter, she hit a three-pointer and launched a 17-0 run, rewriting the score to 51-32.

Seventh-year coach Aaron Roussell has led Richmond (26-8) to 26-plus wins and an NCAA tournament appearance in each of the past three seasons. The Spiders are making their sixth appearance in the tournament and earning their second consecutive at-large bid.

Maggie Doogan, named Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, had 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting and 10 rebounds for the Spiders. The 6-foot-2 senior averaged 28.5 points per game in two tournament games last season, including a 30-point, 15-rebound performance in helping Richmond beat Georgia Tech 74-49 in the round of 64 for the program’s first win in the NCAA tournament.

Richmond shot 40% overall and made just 4 of 23 shots from beyond the arc (17%). The Spiders enter this game ranked second in the nation in three-point field goals made per game (10.5), ninth in three-point field goal percentage (.370) and 24th in field goal percentage (.458).

Missouri 85, Stephen F. Austin 75

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Kemin Beckmeier had 22 points and 13 rebounds, Lainee Douglas had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Missouri State defeated Stephen F. Austin.

No. 16 seed Missouri State (23-12), which has won at least one game in each of the past four NCAA tournaments, will face top-seeded Texas in the Round of 64 on Friday.

Missouri State shot 48 percent (33 of 69), outrebounded SFA 50-30, overcame 19 turnovers, and the Ladyjacks turned them into 22 points.

Stephen F. Austin (25-10) has lost eight straight NCAA tournament games since a 73-72 first-round victory over Xavier in 2000.

At the end of the first half, Missouri State went on a 9-0 run to take the lead permanently. With 1:55 left in the second quarter, Angel Scott’s three-pointer helped the team rewrite the score to 45-37.

Ashlyn Traylor-Walker scored 23 points and Aziyah Farrier had 13 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Hamani Dominguez hit three three-pointers and scored 9 points. Dominguez extended her single-season record for three-pointers to 100 — third most in Division I this season.

Maiesha Washington scored 18 points, Kendal Brueggen had 13 points and nine rebounds and Faith Lee added 10 points for the Lady Bears.
