‘Predator’ jailed for sex attack on rail passenger

A man described by detectives as a “sexual predator” has been jailed for eight months for attacking a woman on a train.

Hawre Mohamed, 27, from Hawley, Surrey, attacked the 20-year-old girl after following her onto a train at the town’s railway station.

He was arrested days later when police spotted him at East Croydon station.

He was sentenced at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Monday and placed on the sex offenders’ register for ten years.

British Transport Police (BTP) said Mohammed approached the woman at around 20:20 BST on September 22 and asked how to get through the fare gate.

BPT said he followed her into the carriage and sat next to her, even though there were many empty seats on the bus.

He continued to try to talk to her, then touched her and tried to kiss her, also asked her age and said he was “not suitable for anyone under 18”.

The woman contacted police after being dropped off at Redhill.

He was arrested in Croydon when police discovered he was wearing the same jacket he was wearing during the attack.

Detective Inspector Geraldine Devaney said: “Mohammed is a sexual predator who sexually assaulted a woman traveling alone and would not take no for an answer. His behavior on that day was simply despicable.”

“Thanks to the victim’s courage and support we were able to take him to court and jail him.”
