Powerball jackpot reset to $20M for March 4 drawing: Winning numbers

A winning Powerball ticket sold in Arkansas ended the jackpot of $251 million on March 2, with the jackpot back to $20 million ahead of the drawing on Wednesday, March 4.

According to lottery officials, the Powerball jackpot has been won nearly 200 times since the game began in 1992. Today, 45 U.S. lotteries participate in the lottery, with five states opting out: Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah.

Some states have better luck than others. Indiana, Missouri, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin round out the top five states with the most Powerball winners. Here’s what you need to know ahead of Wednesday’s Powerball drawing.

No one won the Powerball jackpot, the Match 5 + Power Play $2 million prize, or the Match 5 $1 million prize.

The jackpot has grown to $35 million, with a cash value of $16.5 million, ahead of the drawing on Saturday, March 7 at 11pm ET.

Do you have to be a U.S. citizen or resident to play Powerball?

In short, the answer is no, you don’t have to be a US citizen or US resident to play Powerball. Anyone, regardless of nationality, may purchase lottery tickets from authorized and licensed retailers when visiting one of the 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, provided they meet the legal age requirement (generally 18 years old) at the time of purchase.

How to play Powerball

Powerball tickets cost $2 per game and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. You can do this at a number of locations, including local convenience stores, gas stations, and even grocery stores. In some states, Powerball tickets can be purchased online depending on the local jurisdiction.

Once you get your ticket, you need to choose six numbers. Five of them are white balls, numbered 1 to 69. The red power ball ranges from 1 to 26. People can also add a “power play” for $1, which increases their chances of winning on all non-jackpot jackpots. “Power Play” multipliers can multiply winnings: 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x.

You can also use the Quick Select option if you want the computer to select the number. To win the jackpot, players must match all five white balls and the red Power Ball in any order.

Powerball drawings are held on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights. If no one wins the jackpot, the cash prize keeps growing.
