Popular fast-food chain suddenly shuttered nearly 100 locations. Here’s why

When it comes to fast food chains, Hardee’s has a loyal following, especially for its breakfast offerings.

But that following wasn’t enough to keep major franchisees in the game, so it’s bad news for fans of the chain in at least eight states as their local restaurants have been shuttered.

It is reported77 Hardee’s have been closed. The restaurants are located in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, Montana, South Carolina and Wyoming. The decision comes after Hardee’s Restaurant reportedly sued ARC Burger, claiming the franchisee failed to make timely payments.

ARC Burger reportedly decided to close the locations in response to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit alleges that franchisees began defaulting on payments in December 2024. Hardee’s claims the payments include royalties, technology and training fees, rent and taxes and advertising.

“The closings of these restaurants are due to ARC Burger’s failure to resolve breaches in its franchise agreement despite steady sales and our continued efforts over several months to reach a resolution that would allow these restaurants to remain open,” Hardee’s said in a statement to USA TODAY.

Hardee’s is reportedly suing ARC Burger for $6.5 million, allegedly as part of its franchise agreement.

The locations were originally scheduled to close by the end of 2025, but loyal Hardee fans still have some hope. KCTV 5 reports Just because ARC Burger has closed some locations, Hardee’s could choose to get those locations back up and running.
