Police search for man who pushed woman out of car in Fresno before crash

Police are searching for a man who drove into a patrol car at a high rate of speed before crashing in Fresno on Sunday.

An officer conducted a traffic stop near Ingram Avenue and Herndon Avenue at 3:45 p.m. The officer made contact with a female driver and a man in the passenger seat.

Police said the man gave officers a false name. When officers tried to free him from the car, he resisted, pushed the woman out of the driver’s seat and took control of the vehicle.

The man reversed into the patrol car, knocked the officer to the ground, and fled the scene at high speed.

An officer from the area spotted the speeding vehicle just south of Highway 41 at Ashland Avenue.

Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over but were unsuccessful and lost sight of the vehicle.

Police say the man tried to exit Highway 41 at Jensen Avenue, but lost control of the vehicle and collided with another vehicle.

Police said the man fled on foot and has not been taken into custody. A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded gun.

The other driver suffered minor injuries, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police 559-621-7000.
