According to reports, at 9:38 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to westbound Interstate 80 east of Bethel-Wilmington Road in Shenango Township.

According to PSP, a pickup truck traveling in the right lane rear-ended a sedan also traveling in the right lane.

The sedan then struck the rear of a tractor-trailer and became partially lodged underneath. The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene, PSP said.

Mercer County Coroner John Libonati said the driver, an 81-year-old man, died of blunt force trauma to the head and chest. His death was ruled accidental and his next of kin have not yet been notified, so he has yet to be identified.

The driver of the tractor-trailer and pickup truck was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, PSP said.

Reports identified the driver of the pickup truck as Carlos A. Valdivia Perez, 26, of Cliffside Park, N.J., who was charged with following too closely.
