The New England Patriots have reportedly made a few moves in free agency now that the legal tampering period is open, but one name the team continues to be linked to on the trade market is Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown, especially after the team missed out on one of its top targets, Alec Pierce, on the open market.

The Patriots are in desperate need of a No. 1 wide receiver after cutting Stefon Diggs, and Brown will certainly fill that role. But so far, the Eagles’ high asking price has kept the Pats from pulling the trigger. New England appears skeptical about giving up a first-round pick to bring Brown to town, according to a new report.

NFL insider Josina Anderson reported in a post on

It’s not hard to see why Philadelphia is playing hardball in these trade talks, as Brown had 78 catches for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games last season. New England needs a player like Brown, but Philadelphia seems willing to move on from him after a dramatic 2025 season.

With few options on the free-agent market, the Patriots may have to acquire the type of wide receiver they’re looking for in a trade. Brown is certainly a logical fit, but unless the Eagles lower their asking price, it appears those talks will remain at a standstill.
