Legendary New England Patriots kicker Adam Vinatieri will serve as honorary captain for the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos.
Vinatieri is arguably the greatest kicker in NFL history and is currently a 2026 finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He kicked the game-winning field goals in Super Bowl 36 and Super Bowl 38. He also famously kicked a 23-yard field goal in overtime against the Oakland Raiders in the AFC Divisional Round (widely considered the “Tucker Rule Game”).

Vinatieri is widely regarded as one of the most clutch kickers of all time.
Vinatieri being named an honorary captain for the game should bring back a lot of memories as he returns to action as a Patriot. He’s a legend from the past who will watch a new one be born in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game.
