Pansexual figure skater Amber Glenn’s rollercoaster Olympic debut made us proud

Pansexual figure skater Amber Glenn experienced a rollercoaster ride at her first Olympics.

After becoming the first openly LGBTQ+ woman to earn a spot on the U.S. figure skating team, she made a splash by winning the gold medal in the team event at the Winter Olympics, but after a poor performance in the short program, she fell off the podium to 13th place.

But the queer community should still be proud of Glenn, who picked herself up, dusted herself off and soared to a season-best 147.52 in the free skate on Feb. 19.

She may not win a singles medal at the Cortina Games in Milan, but Glenn opened her free skate with a perfect triple axel, and although she made a mistake at the end of her performance, she was clearly proud of her accomplishment and pumped her signature fist on center ice.

As he kissed and cried on the couch awaiting the score, Glenn could be heard saying: “I’m in the Olympics. I didn’t fall. I didn’t fall in the Olympics.”

After redeeming himself with his free skate, Glenn told NBC She is proud of herself. “I told myself to enjoy it and I took my moments in the spiral,” she said. “I told myself, ‘You just skate and stay standing in the Olympics.'” I’m proud that I was able to have that moment. “

“That six-year-old girl never thought I would be here, so I just told myself to go out there and do your job,” Glenn said. “I’m working hard to have that moment [step] Sequence, that’s my reward. “
