The late George Propstra became the founder in 1956 when he took over his father’s dairy business. The butter and eggs business grew into an ice cream company and then expanded into offering cheese sandwiches and eventually burgers in restaurants.

Burgerville currently has 41 locations in Oregon and southwestern Washington. The company will open new restaurants in Salem, Bend and Woodburn in 2025 and announced Kyle Welch as its new CEO in February.

The company says 75% of its menu comes from local farmers and producers, and it announced it will launch retro menu items in 2026 that will be voted on by fans. The first is a lime frosted milkshake, available until early April.
