Scotty Barnes leads Raptors to explosive third quarter
The Pacers have historically had issues dealing with the Raptors’ athleticism and length and preventing them from scoring at will in the paint, so it was notable going into halftime that they won a rock battle.

At halftime, the Pacers led 48-46. They shot just 39.5% themselves (17 of 43), but the Raptors made 17 of 39 shots, including 5 of 14 from 3-point range. They committed 11 turnovers and scored 0.97 points per possession. The Raptors only led 22-20 in scoring in the paint, and the two teams were evenly matched on the glass, each grabbing 22 rebounds and each grabbing four rebounds on second-chance points.
But as the third quarter began, it was clear the game was about to change dramatically.
The Raptors opened the game on an 8-0 run and never let up. They outscored the Pacers 29-8 in the first six minutes of the third quarter, scoring more points in one half than in either of the first two quarters. They slowed down a bit over the next six minutes but still won the quarter 44-26, just shy of their first-half total. They made 17 of 28 shots from the field, tying their first half total, 4 of 8 from 3-point range, and 6 of 6 from the free throw line. They made 12 of 19 shots in the penalty area and scored 24 points, exceeding their first half total.
Scotty Barnes played only 9 minutes and 20 seconds in the third quarter, scoring 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting, grabbing 8 rebounds and 4 assists. His age during this period was +23. In this game, he scored 25 points on 12 of 20 shots. Except for one shot, all of the shots came from the paint area, and most of them came from the basket.

Trayce Jackson-Davis has solid performance in Raptors debut
Former IU All-American, Center Grove High School star and 2019 Indiana Mr. Basketball Trayce Jackson-Davis played his first game with the Raptors on Wednesday night after being traded to Toronto from the Golden State Warriors. He made it clear to the Raptors that he could help off the bench.
The Raptors were playing without starting center Jakob Poeltl and rookie Colin Murray-Boyles sidelined with a thumb injury, but Jackson Davis did a lot of work as the Raptors built a huge lead in the second half. He scored 10 points on 2-of-4 shooting, 6-of-10 free throws, and grabbed 10 rebounds in 15 minutes and 31 seconds.
Pacers suffer loss with Johnny Furfe injured
The Pacers had run out of steam in the third quarter and seemed to lose all momentum when second-year forward Johnny Forfe left the game with an apparent injury.

The second-year wing went for a slam dunk with less than four minutes left in the third quarter, but landed awkwardly on his right leg and immediately fell to the floor, clutching his right knee. He had to be carried off the field by a staff member and injured teammate Obi Toppin. All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton, who is still sidelined from a torn Achilles tendon he suffered in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, followed Forfe into the tunnel, and Forfe was placed in a wheelchair back to the locker room for evaluation. Pacers public relations said he wouldn’t return for the remainder of the game because of “right leg soreness,” but the eventual diagnosis appears to be more serious.
“We’re not sure about Furphy’s condition,” Carlisle told the media after the game. “He will be tested tomorrow in New York and we will see how it goes.”
The Pacers have been plagued by injuries all year and are still playing without recently acquired center Ivica Zubac and forward Kobe Brown, having to play the remainder of the game with just nine available players.
