One dead after fatal crash on Colonial Boulevard overnight

Colonial Avenue in Fort Myers reopened Saturday morning, Dec. 13, after a fatal crash overnight.

The Fort Myers Police Department was still investigating the crash Saturday afternoon. Police spokesperson Megan Fuentes confirmed one person died at the scene of the crash. No other information was provided.

All eastbound and westbound lanes of Colonial Boulevard and Lee Boulevard are blocked until approximately 7 a.m. Saturday.

The News Service of Fort Myers has requested public records regarding the crash and will continue to update the story as information becomes available.

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, there have been 12,439 crashes in Lee County this year. 94 of these accidents resulted in 97 deaths. The Lee County Sheriff’s Department investigated 6,857 accidents, accounting for about 55% of this year’s total. This year, local police departments responded to 4,719 of the 12,439 crashes, and the Florida Highway Patrol investigated 773 Lee crashes.
