Oldest cafe in Los Angeles County reopens with new owner after shutdown

A historic Southern California cafe founded in the Santa Clarita Valley nearly 140 years ago reopened Monday after initially being thought to close permanently in early January.

Long considered the oldest coffeehouse in Los Angeles County, the Saugus Café first opened in 1886 and is now run by new owner Eduardo Reyna. Opens at 5am

“I’m happy,” Renner said after serving his first customer within minutes of reopening.

Generations of families have enjoyed home-cooked cooking at this much-loved café.

“It feels like coming home,” said Michaela, a Saugus Cafe employee of 25 years. “Hopefully we can win back the same customers and new customers.”

The cafe closed on January 4 under its previous ownership and is not expected to reopen. But after two weeks of interior renovations, cleaning and repainting, it is back in business, KHTS radio reported, posting a video of the work in progress.

Saugus Cafe is located at 25861 Railroad Blvd., Santa Clarita.
