A couple and their young son were killed when two sport utility vehicles collided Saturday night in Cook County and the driver of one overtook a third vehicle, authorities said.
The driver of a passing Kia also died in the crash in a no-go zone on FM 51 near County Road 383 in Gainesville, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Cooper and Jennifer Bailey and their son Hudson were killed in the collision, according to Wise County Emergency Services District 3. Cooper Bailey is a firefighter in Paradise.
According to DPS, the Kia was traveling south on FM 51 when its driver overtook the vehicle and collided head-on with the Baileys’ Nissan around 8:15 p.m. Nissan car on fire.
The couple’s other child was flown by helicopter to a Fort Worth hospital.
“We are pleased to share that their infant daughter, Lila, survived and is currently being cared for at Cook Children’s Medical Center and is being supported by her grandparents,” the emergency services district social media post said.
“Firefighter Bailey was a dedicated member of this department and all of us are deeply saddened by his passing,” the district wrote in the post.
The Butterfly Bridge Foundation organized a fundraiser for the family.
