No. 5 LSU routs Morgan State 91-33 in eighth win this season by 50 points or more

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Mikayla Williams and Frauje Johnson scored 14 points apiece as No. 5 LSU beat Morgan State 91-33 on Tuesday.

Despite the 11 a.m. kickoff, the Tigers (12-0) drew energy from the thousands of students attending LSU’s annual field trip. It was the Tigers’ eighth win by 50 points or more this season.

Other LSU players in double figures included MiLaysia Fulwiley with 11 points and Jada Richard and Grace Knox with 10 points each.

Morgan State (1-12) lost by 50 points or more for the fourth time this season, led by Ja’la Bannerman’s eight points.

LSU leads the nation in winning percentage with an average of 53.1 points per game, but their biggest challenge is staying focused against opponents who are losing by an average of 25.4 points.

Looking at the Tigers’ scoring breakdown — 52 points from the starters and 39 points from six bench players — they accomplished their goal without letting up.

Playing its first home game since Nov. 20, LSU made four of its first five field goals, including two 3-pointers by Williams and two layups by Zakia Johnson.

The Tigers led 30-9 at the end of the first quarter, 52-17 at halftime and 74-25 after three quarters.

LSU held Morgan State to just five field goals in the final 39 minutes of the game. The Bears shot 11-for-44 (25%) and scored on just one consecutive possession in the second half.

The Tigers forced 25 turnovers and led by 32 points. LSU had 14 steals, including five from Kate Koval.
