New Delhi: Rohit Sharma made a strong return from injury and Suryakumar Yadav led the way in the absence of Hardik Pandya as Mumbai Indians eased past Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets in the IPL 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday. Despite the win, Mumbai remain in ninth place with 3 wins and 7 losses in 10 games, with 6 points and a net rating of -0.649.
Post-match, pacer Deepak Chahal’s sister Malti Chahal took to social media to congratulate the team, praising Surya’s captaincy and Rohit’s knock.
“It’s like MI again! Good performance from almost everyone. Ryan and Rohit bhaiya batted well! Great captaincy by Surya. Deepak bowled all four overs bro! Right team play. This is MI!” Malti wrote.
Rohit scored 84 and Ryan Rickelton scored 83 to help Mumbai Indians achieve the highest success rate in run-chase in the stadium. They moved up to six points but remain second to last with little playoff hope.
Nicholas Pooran hit a half-century off 16 balls and scored 63 off 21 balls while Mitchell Marsh scored 44 off 25 balls to help LSG recover from their mid-wicket wobble to end the match at 228/5 in what was a must-win game for both teams.
In reply, Mumbai reached 229/4 in 18.4 overs, powered by half-centuries from Rohit and Rickton, to seal the victory with eight balls remaining. LSG suffered a six-game losing streak and were at the bottom with 4 points.
“To be honest, we’ve been in this situation many times this season. It’s nothing new, to be honest. But then I know, the T20 after the power play from 7 to 10 Test cricket, this is the best time you can win a game. We knew there were two wickets here and there and I could control the game. The way all the bowlers reacted, I thought they showed a lot of character (back in the game) and I thought the score was 110 or 120, 1 or 2, at 8-9.
“I don’t remember much. But from then on, to get to 162 in five of 16 overs, I thought the performance was unbelievable. Everyone had this belief and they had a clear plan. I didn’t tell them anything. It was only mentioned in a few cases. Very little, very little support but at the end of the day, the way they showed their character and the way they bowled, I think it deserves credit (in the chase), even though we had scored 244 a few days ago, so we knew all along, 220-225-230. Anything left or right is chaseable and Ryan Rickelton has been hitting the ball beautifully,” he said.

“As I said, at the toss, our own Rohit Sharma was back in the side, fit, ready, eager to go. The way he performed, the way he entertained the crowd, I thought it was unbelievable. Look (at the opening stand), I think when you’re chasing 200-225 It’s always important to get off to a good start. The way they batted together, it seemed like they were always in control of what the team needed and they did the same thing and in the end, the way Naman Dill and everyone batted, I thought it was good,” Surya said.
