The enthusiasm surrounding the show has certainly piqued the interest of many non-hockey fans, which he said will undoubtedly contribute to the success of the NHL’s 2025-26 regular season. It’s similar to the impact Taylor Swift had on the NFL after supporting her fiancé, Travis Kelce, at multiple Kansas City Chiefs games.
The commissioner also made it clear that he and the league support the LGBTQ+ community and said he would be happy to host a Pride night, but there are currently no plans to allow players to wear Pride jerseys (well, any themed jerseys) during warmups again. “This isn’t about Pride jerseys or Pride nights; it’s about the fact that some of the players wearing the jerseys may not be okay with bringing something into the game,” the commissioner said. “It could be a heritage night – we don’t allow it – it could be political. It could be a time when there’s conflict between countries, between national origins. It’s becoming a distraction, not just for the Pride jersey but for all sorts of other things.”
He added, “It’s a misrepresentation of what we do, to think it’s about the Pride jersey; it’s about the whole issue of what you put on the ice and how to create disruption when players don’t embrace the cause, whatever it is, and it defeats the purpose of embracing Pride Night.”
