NFL draft analyst with good news for Indianapolis Colts

Daniel Jeremiah is one of the best players in the NFL Draft, and he has some good news for the Indianapolis Colts.

As Jeremiah continues to complete his draft evaluations, he recently stated that this is a good year for edge rusher help — something the Colts desperately need.

“If you need a rusher, this is a good double pick,” Jeremiah wrote. “The depth of this class is impressive. I have 10 guys who deserve to be in the top 50. Beyond that group, there’s another layer of players with quality.”

The Colts’ needs at the position are twofold. First, adding depth is a must with Samson Ebukam, Ta’Quan Lewis and Quanti Paye all set to hit free agency.

But beyond that, the defensive front needs “more fuel,” as general manager Chris Ballard said in his season-ending press conference.

As a collective, the Colts ranked 30th in ESPN’s pass-rushing win rate metric last season.

Among all defensive ends, only Latour ranked in the top 50 in quarterback pressures last season, and he was the Colts’ only defensive end in the top 80 in PFF pass win rate.

Here are Mel Kiper’s top 10 defensive ends in this year’s draft:

1. Rueben Bain Jr., Miami (Fla.) 2. Keldrick Faulk, Auburn 3. Zion Young, Missouri 4. Akheem Mesidor, Miami (Fla.) 5. Danny Dennis Sutton, Penn State 6. Caden Curry, Ohio State 7. LT Overton (Alabama) 8. Jake Piburn, LSU9. Max Llewellyn, Iowa 10. Vincent Anthony Jr., Duke University

The Colts don’t own a first-round pick, but they do have second- and third-round picks. From the sound of it, there should be an opportunity to strengthen the defensive end position at this stage of the draft.
