Newcastle start summer plans with move for Monaco midfielder

Newcastle United have “genuine interest” in Monaco midfielder Lamine Kamara as Eddie Howe begins plans for a rebuild at St James’ Park.

A disappointing Premier League campaign has accelerated the club’s summer transfer plans as the Magpies look to overhaul their squad.

Kamara is a player of interest to Newcastle and Fabrizio Romano reports that preliminary talks have already taken place. However, Premier League sides are not the only ones to express interest, with multiple teams across Europe also weighing up offers.

Camara has scored 1 goal and provided 4 assists in Ligue 1 this season. He ranks in the top 10% of French midfielders in terms of successful crosses, great opportunities created, ball recoveries, fouls won and interceptions.

With Monaco set to miss out on the Champions League, Newcastle are hoping to sign Kamara for a reasonable fee.

The 22-year-old was a breakout star when Senegal won the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations and was named in the tournament’s Team of the Tournament and has already represented his country 41 times.

Newcastle United are targeting a midfielder amid doubts over Sandro Tonali’s future. The Italy international has attracted interest from Premier League rivals including Manchester United and Arsenal.
