NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets guard Ochai Agbaji had his best season in the NBA last year, his first full season with the still-rebuilding Toronto Raptors. Agbaji was unexpectedly traded to Brooklyn at the trade deadline as the Raptors looked to accomplish more than roster construction, but he’s looking forward to his new experience with the Nets.
“This is great. [It’s] It’s been a bit of a whirlwind few days. But in this organization, it feels like family. “Agbaji said before Saturday’s 127-113 victory over the Washington Wizards. With Agbaji officially being acquired on Thursday, he has enough time to play in Brooklyn’s game against the Washington Wizards. Although he did not play against the Wizards, Agbaji understands his strengths on this team.

“My defense, and the intensity I play with and the intensity I bring every night. I always try to win every possession. That’s what I bring as a player and what I bring,” Agbaji said when asked what he brings to the Nets. “I just know I still have a lot to show. Of course, I had a great season last year and I just want to build on that and build on that this season.”
The 25-year-old Agbaji played in 42 games for the Raptors before being traded to Brooklyn, averaging 4.3 points and 2.3 rebounds while shooting 42.4% from the field and 18.5% from three-point range. In the 2024-25 season, Agbaji showed more of his abilities, averaging 10.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game, shooting 49.8% from the field and 39.9% from beyond the three-point line.
Time will tell how much playing time Agbaji gets with the Nets, as head coach Jordy Fernandez typically fields 10 players in the rotation with players like Terrence Mann, Ziaire Williams and Jalen Wilson vying for minutes at the end of the bench. Agbaji didn’t play against Washington, but that could be because he didn’t have enough time to familiarize himself with the scheme. Regardless, Agbaji is ready to give everything he has.
