NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — With colder and wetter weather on the way, crews are preparing to evacuate roads they have already cleared.

Nashville electric service officials claim they are ready to deal with the threat of severe weather coming this weekend. They are on the move, transporting salt for the roads.

The Nashville Department of Transportation and the Tennessee Department of Transportation had 46 crews working around the clock to assess damage and transport people to shelters.

NDOT is still assessing damage to transportation infrastructure, but the majority of its resources have been dedicated to power restoration.

Crews are busy clearing roads and starting to treat them before temperatures plummet.

Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell said there are more plows in the fleet. NDOT is still patrolling traffic lights. Officials remind residents that NDOT will not remove limbs on private property, so they must be moved to the curb.

They also warned residents of a new problem: improperly wired generators. When residents use generators after power is restored, the generators will begin to resupply power to the power lines.

NDOT Deputy Director Phillip Jones asked residents who have generators in their homes to make sure they are installed correctly.

“If these generators are not wired into the home properly, they feed back through those wires, which creates power… and they send power up to the trees, and then the wires get pulled,” Jones said. “We have these issues. We’re just asking if you have a generator in your home and if it’s wired correctly.”

Both NDOT and TDOT are in close contact with NES regarding its progress as well as the Arctic blast throughout the weekend.

NDOT is planning to arrange special vegetation to clean up debris. They haven’t announced a date yet.
