Jason Benetti will be named lead play-by-play announcer for NBC’s Major League Baseball coverage, Front Office Sports reports.
Benetti, who currently serves as the play-by-play announcer for the Detroit Tigers, will open the season on March 26 when the Los Angeles Dodgers host the Arizona Diamondbacks. He will then serve as the primary voice on NBC’s “Sunday Night Baseball,” with a rotating cast of analysts from the local broadcast team.

Before calling Tigers games, Benetti served as the primary television voice for the Chicago White Sox for eight seasons.
NBC isn’t Benetti’s first appearance in front of a national audience. Since 2022, he has served as a broadcaster for Fox’s college football, college basketball and MLB coverage. This isn’t Benetti’s first time working with NBC either. He headlined Olympic baseball coverage during the 2020 Summer Olympics and participated in the network’s MLB “Sunday Kickoff” games on Peacock.
NBC has announced that former MLB players Clayton Kershaw, Joey Votto and Anthony Rizzo will serve as studio analysts for broadcasts in 2026 and beyond. Longtime broadcaster Bob Costas will serve as studio host.

Last year, NBC reached a deal to pay nearly $200 million annually for “Sunday Night Baseball” (the predecessor to ESPN), the “Sunday Kickoff” package and the playoff wild-card games. As its broadcast schedule indicates, Peacock will be the exclusive home for many of these games.
