The Chicago Bears suffered a 42-38 defeat at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers in one of the NFL’s most exciting games of the year and a potential rematch in the playoffs.
Although the Bears lost, they earned a lot of praise and respect for their performance against the 49ers in the shootout, most notably from quarterback Caleb Williams, who had his best road game of the season in prime time. Williams completed 25 of 42 passes for 330 yards, two touchdowns, no turnovers and a passer rating of 100.3.

Williams threw big passes all night, including two 30-plus yard touchdowns to rookie Luther Burden III and Colston Loveland. Williams nearly completed his NFL-record comeback for the seventh time in the fourth quarter, but time ran out on the final play of the game. Williams’ performance was very encouraging, and it’s clear that the future is bright for head coach Ben Johnson and Williams for the foreseeable future.
