With the playoffs quickly approaching, the 2025-26 national high school girls basketball regular season is already firmly in the second half for most teams across the country.
There are no changes to the nation’s No. 1 team, either, with Ontario Christian still at the top after a 20-game winning streak to start the year and California’s Sierra Canyon also adding newcomers to the top 5. Who else joins the above teams in the latest top 25 high school girls basketball rankings?

Below is the latest list of the top 25 high school girls basketball teams in the country from Massey Ratings, which ranks teams by analyzing game results, strength of schedule and winning percentage through Jan. 12.
1. Ontario Christian Knights (California) (20-0)
The Ontario Christian Knights (20-0) are currently one of the top women’s basketball teams in California and are off to an undefeated start, winning 20 straight games to start the 2025-26 season. Ontario Christian is scoring at a fast pace, and the Cavaliers are averaging a staggering 92.5 points per game. The Cavaliers have three scorers, led by junior point guard Karina SmithCurrently, he is averaging 33.2 points, 7.5 assists, 4.9 steals and 3.9 rebounds per game, leading the team. Last week, Ontario Christian defeated California’s second-best Archbishop Mitty 96-87 in what might have been Ontario Christian’s most impressive win of the season. The Cavaliers will face another challenge next Monday when they take on fourth-ranked Long Island Lutheran.
2. Johnston Dragons (IA) (12-0)
The Johnston Dragons (12-0) are coming off last year’s Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) Class 5A state championship and a 26-0 record in the 2024-25 season, and are on track to do that again this winter/spring. The Dragons are currently on a 64-game winning streak dating back to 2023, and the program has won back-to-back state championships. Senior point guard Jenica LewisScored 12 points in last year’s state championship game and returns after a strong junior season. Lewis held offers from Iowa State, UNC, Notre Dame, Oregon State and TCU. The Dragons have now extended their long-running winning streak to 64 games and are showing zero signs of slowing down soon.

3. Hopkins Royals (Minnesota) (10-1)
Sitting firmly in third place in the latest national high school girls basketball rankings is last year’s Minnesota High School League (MSHSL) AAAA state champion Hopkins Royals (10-1), who defeated Maple Grove 27-5 to capture the title. Hopkins wasn’t a team loaded with star power last season and was on its way to winning another state championship, but they brought back a lot of talent to start the fall season that everyone was focused on. Junior point forward Erma Walker A year ago, he played a crucial role in the Royals’ win over Maple Grove, scoring 28 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Hopkins’ only loss this season was a 46-43 loss to Dowling Catholic, Iowa, the sixth-ranked team in our rankings.
4. Long Island Lutheran Crusaders (New York) (11-2)

The Crusaders had won three straight to start the season but recently lost to Bishop McNamara of Maryland. Long Island Lutheran is led by junior four-star point guard Taylor Brown, who returns this season as one of the best generals in high school girls basketball in the country. The Crusaders will have some of their toughest games of the season as they face back-to-back games against No. 1 Ontario Christian and No. 5 Sierra Canyon.

5. Sierra Canyon Trail Blazers (California) (15-1)
The Sierra Canyon Blazers are ranked in the top five in the latest high school girls basketball rankings, and they’ve easily proven themselves to be one of the best teams in the country every year. The Blazers’ only loss this season was a 67-63 loss to JSerra Catholic on Dec. 3. Otherwise, Sierra Canyon has been perfect, but they face some challenges when they face No. 4 Long Island Lutheran and Harvard-Westlake (Calif.), respectively. If Serra can defeat the Crusaders on Friday night, they are expected to be in contention for one of the top three spots.
