Nate Calmese hits winner with 6.8 left, Wake Forest rallies to beat Florida State 69-68

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Nate Kalmes scored 18 points, including the game-winning jumper with 6.8 seconds left, and Wake Forest beat Florida State 69-68 on Saturday night for the Demon Deacons’ first Atlantic Coast Conference road win of the season.

With 24 seconds left in the game, the Demon Deacons went on an 11-4 run to bring the score to 68-67. Florida State called a timeout after Kalmes’ floater to end the scoring, and the Seminoles’ Robert McCray V missed a potential game-winning shot that hit the front of the rim to end the scoring.

Kalmes made 8 of 19 shots. Juke Harris and Myles Colvin each scored 15 points for Wake Forest (11-7, 2-3 Atlantic Coast Conference), which trailed 65-54 with 4:26 left.

Chauncey Wiggins scored 15 points to lead Florida State (7-11, 0-5). McRae scored 12 points and 5 assists, but made 11 turnovers. Thomas Basson scored 11 points for the Seminoles.

Florida State scored the final four points of the first half to lead 34-31 at the break. The Seminoles’ Martin Somerville scored seven of his nine points in the first half. Kalmes scored 10 points in the first half to tie Wake Forest.
