The lucky Georgian won a Mega Millions jackpot worth $983 million, claiming his prize just months after the historic drawing.
The winner purchased the ticket at the Publix on the highway. Was in Newnan on November 29th for the November 14th drawing but did not show up until January 2nd. The Georgia Lottery said the winner selected the cash option worth $453.6 million before taxes.

It is the largest award in state history. The previous record was in 2024, when two winners split the $478.2 million jackpot.

Georgia law allows winners of prizes worth more than $250,000 to choose to remain anonymous, and the Nov. 14 winner decided to do so. Officials confirmed the winner is from Georgia and has a family member who has received the lottery’s HOPE scholarship.

But where do the millionaire winners plan to spend their cash options? The jackpot holder told the Georgia Lottery that the prize will be “generational” and used to give back to good causes.
“We are excited to celebrate Georgia’s record-breaking jackpot winners and the start of their life-changing year,” said Gretchen Corbin, president and CEO of the Georgia Lottery.
