Musk says SpaceX, Tesla to build advanced chip factories in Texas

<span>Story: :: SpaceX</span><span>SpaceX and Tesla will build two advanced chip factories at a massive facility in Austin, Texas.</span><span>:: document</span><span>CEO Elon Musk unveiled the so-called “Terafab” project on Sunday.</span><span>:: Tesla</span><span>A factory will produce chips for cars and humanoid robots.</span><span>:: Space Exploration Technologies Corporation</span><span>Another aims to build processors for space-based artificial intelligence data centers.</span><span>Musk said current global chip production can only meet a small part of his company’s future needs.</span><span>He added, “Either we build Terafab or we don’t have the chip.”</span><span>:: Tesla</span><span>The billionaire CEO said Terafab will eventually generate 1 terawatt of computing power per year, compared with about half a terawatt of computing power currently available across the U.S.</span><span>He gave no timetable for the new project.</span><span>Musk has previously said Tesla needs to build its own artificial intelligence chip factory, but SpaceX’s involvement has not been disclosed.</span><span>The rocket company is preparing to go public at a valuation of about $1.75 trillion.</span>
