Morgan Stanley (MS) has taken another step into the cryptocurrency space by filing a registration statement for the Ethereum Trust, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Tuesday.
The move comes after spot Bitcoin filings were filed on Tuesday and Solana exchange-traded funds (ETFs), following the rapid expansion of U.S. cryptocurrency ETFs over the past two years.
Morgan Stanley’s expansion into cryptocurrencies is indicative of a broader trend among traditional finance (TradFi) institutions, which are increasingly looking to offer digital asset products through familiar, regulated vehicles.
The bank opened cryptocurrency access to customers through its wealth management arm in October.
