Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese praised heroic bystanders and police officers who rushed to stop the gunman and save the wounded.
“The evil act that occurred at Bondi Beach today is beyond comprehension and the trauma and loss faced by families tonight is beyond anyone’s worst nightmare,” he said.
“Our thoughts also go to the fact that everyone’s injuries were treated and many of them are now alive, thanks to the courage and swift action of the NSW Police and first responders who rushed to their rescue, and the courage of ordinary Australians who did not hesitate to put themselves in harm’s way to keep their fellow Australians safe.
“We are seeing Australians putting themselves at risk today to help others.”
