Xiaomi is one of the largest smartphone brands in India and is known for its budget smartphones. While its custom skin, MIUI 12, based on Android 11, has some noteworthy features, it also contains ads sprinkled here and there. During the MIUI 12 launch, Xiaomi did mention a one-click option to disable system-wide ads, but the feature is missing from the global build. If you are a MIUI 12 user and want to give your smartphone a deep clean, here is how you can do it.
Before starting the steps in this guide, we recommend that you double-check the MIUI version on your smartphone. If you’re still running a previous version of MIUI, we’ve made a guide for them. Here is the step-by-step process for MIUI 11, MIUI 10 and MIUI 9. Another thing to note here is that we’re using a Redmi 9 Power for this tutorial, so your situation may be different.
Disable MSA process
To begin the process of disabling ads, we have to cut something off at the source. One of them is MSA or MIUI System Ads, which is one of the biggest reasons to see ads in stock apps. To disable it:
- Open Settings application.
- Navigate to Passwords and Security > Authorization and Revocation.
- here you must Disable MSA.
- After that, scroll down a little and Disable GetApps as well as.
- You will receive a 10-second warning message asking if you are sure you want to do this.
- After the countdown is over, press Undo. If it doesn’t let you close it the first time (which shouldn’t be the case), try again until it closes.
- Even if you restart your phone, MSA should still be disabled.

More changes to stop seeing ads in MIUI 12
While this handles most ads, you can still make some adjustments to ensure that all ads are captured.
- in the same Passwords and security submenu, go to privacy.
- Then click advertising services and disable Personalized advertising recommendations. This essentially turns off data collection to serve you relevant advertising.
Turn off ads in download apps
- Open download app.
- Click Hamburger menu > Settings.
- Disable switching Show recommendations. You will also be prompted here, just select “OK”.
Turn off ads in file manager apps
- Open file manager app.
- Click hamburger menu in the upper left corner.
- Go to About > Disable Recommendations.
Turn off ads in music apps
- Open music app.
- Go to Hamburger Menu > Services & Settings
- choose Advanced settings > Receive suggestions.
- You can also disable other suggestions here, such as Online startup advice and Song recommendations. Please note that disabling this feature will only turn off data collection for this application.
Turn off ads in safety apps
- Open Safety app
- Click Settings button > Receive suggestions.
Turn off ads in theme app
- Open theme app.
- Go to My Page > Settings
- Disable switching suggestion.
Some default folders, such as Tools and More Apps, tend to show you recommended apps when you open them.

- Open tools and more apps folder > Long press on the folder nameto rename it.
- off switch Promote application.
