Michigan State’s program needs a turnaround.

To do that, the Spartans need to find the right quarterback.

Of course, the quarterback isn’t the only thing that matters. But this is the most important position in sports. Finding the right pass rusher is a huge boost for the team.

Michigan State will certainly be looking for one through the transfer portal. But who can they get?

There are connections in their favor that could lead to them eventually landing former four-star Alabama recruit Austin Mack.

Mack has yet to announce his plans, but if he enters the portal, Michigan State could be involved, according to Manny Navarro of The Athletic.

“Former Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald replaced Jonathan Smith and appears to be hiring Cullen DeBoer assistant Nick Sheridan as his offensive coordinator,” Navarro wrote. “That could open the door for Crimson Tide backup Mike, who has yet to announce plans for next season.”

Familiarity is important in these quick-move recruitments. The high school recruiting process isn’t lengthy, so a face the players are already familiar with could be valuable.

It seems unlikely that Mack will break out as a Crimson Tide quarterback in the future. Given this, he could consider moving on.

MSU and UM could make a great partnership if they want to go this route.
