Michigan opens probe into athletic department

Michigan has finally had enough, or so it seems. The university has launched an investigation into its athletic department following another scandal in the department, first reported by The Detroit News (subscription may be required).

According to sources cited by The Detroit News and ESPN, this will not be an internal investigation, but one conducted with an outside firm that the university has worked with in the past.

Chicago-based law firm Jenner & Block, the same firm that investigated Sherrone Moore’s conduct, will be retained to investigate the culture of the athletic department as a growing list of misconduct includes Moore’s investigation and firing, Connor Stallion’s push for a sign-stealing scheme, recruiting violations amid COVID-19 deaths and other concerns that are almost too numerous to list.

There’s no timeline for things like this, so we really don’t know when the investigation will be concluded or what will be discovered and shared, but we’ll certainly be keeping an eye on it as it unfolds.
