Miami trending to land 5-star 2028 cornerback recruit

The Miami Hurricanes quickly built one of the top offenses in college football this offseason, adding quarterback Darian Mensah and wide receiver Cooper Barkat, among others, to pair with running back Mark Fletcher Jr. and standout receiver Malachi Toney.

Now, the Hurricanes are considered a favorite to recruit five-star cornerback A’mir Sears in the 2028 class, per a report from Rivals’ Chad Simmons.

The 6-foot-1, 178-pounder is the No. 1 cornerback and No. 3 overall prospect in the 2028 class, according to 247 Sports Composite. He played for Miami Columbus High School in Miami, where he was the second-ranked player in the state behind five-star wide receiver Bryson Wright.

“The relationships I have with the coaches, how they view me and the connections I have with the players make my life in Miami easy and fun,” Sears told Opponent. “They all know my family. I feel comfortable there and I love Miami on and off the court.”

Sears also holds offers from Oregon State, LSU, USC and Texas A&M, all of which are still under consideration with plenty of time left before he has to sign with a program.

The Miami native told The Rival that attending the Hurricanes and staying home would be an ideal situation because he could stay with his family and “become a hometown guy in Miami.”

Sears also revealed that reclassification to the 2027 class is already under consideration, which would expedite his commitment date and final decision.
