The state Department of Human Services reminds families participating in Med-QUEST that they may be eligible for a $50 incentive for each child who completes a well-child exam through the Hawaii Children’s Health Incentive Program.
The program, known as HCWIP, was created by the Legislature in 2022 under Act 127 as a pilot effort to encourage routine preventive care and early detection of health problems in keiki. Parents or guardians enrolled in Medicaid or Med-QUEST may receive a $50 bonus card each calendar year after a qualifying child visit.
“Every child in Hawaii deserves the opportunity to grow up healthy and receive support,” said DHS Director Ryan Yamane. “This program helps families stay connected for regular check-ups to protect the long-term well-being of our health and strengthen the health of our communities.”
Parents who receive Medicaid or QUEST and have children under 18 years of age (including adopted children and stepchildren) may be eligible. Children do not need to be on Medicaid to qualify for the award.
To receive the $50 card, parents must take their children to a licensed health care professional for a well-child exam. After the provider certifies the visit and submits the required forms to Med-QUEST, a $50 prepaid rewards card will be mailed to parents within four to six weeks. The card can be used to purchase food and other household necessities.
This reward is issued as a prepaid debit card and can be used in the United States
Retailers that accept debit cards. The card cannot withdraw cash and expires within one year of issuance. The balance can be used until used up, but cannot be used to purchase alcohol, firearms or illegal drugs.
