McDavid has 5 assists and Draisaitl scores 3 goals as the surging Oilers defeat the Flames 5-1

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — Connor McDavid had five assists, Leon Draisaitl had three goals and the Edmonton Oilers continued their holiday break with a 5-1 victory over the rival Calgary Flames on Tuesday night.

Zach Hyman scored one goal and assisted two, Evan Bouchard contributed two assists, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also scored for the Oilers (19 wins, 13 draws, and 6 losses). The Oilers have won four of five games in the past 11 games and have a record of 8 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss.

Mackenzie Weegar scored for the Flames (15-18-4), who won their first two games.

Connor Ingram, making his second straight NHL start since early February at Utah, stopped 18 shots and improved the Oilers’ record to 2-0-0.

Dustin Wolfe made 34 saves in the loss.

McDavid extended his scoring streak to 11 games, during which time he had 12 goals and 19 assists. It was the 45th time he scored at least four points in a game, tying him with Jari Kurri for second in Oilers history.

Draisaitl has scored in 10 of the last 11 games, with five goals and 19 assists. His three goals moved him above Glenn Anderson (417) for third in Oilers history, behind only Wayne Gretzky and Curry.

With 14:22 left in the game and Edmonton leading 5-1, Draisaitl scored his third goal of the game and 20th of the season. This was his ninth career regular season hat trick.

De La Sarthe entered on an eight-game goal drought, his longest stretch without a goal in the regular season since February-March 2021.

Edmonton leads the way with the NHL’s best performance (33.3%), scoring in 42.4% of its chances and scoring 14 goals in 33 chances over its last 10 games. The Oilers went 3-for-6 with the man advantage on Tuesday.

The Edmonton team had a record of 16 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses when they scored for the first time this season. After putting on the new substitute jersey, they had a record of 4 wins and 0 losses, defeating their opponents with a 26-10 advantage.

Flames forward Mikael Backlund has six points in his past three games after scoring just three in his previous ten games.
