Maxx Crosby says goodbye to Raiders and fans after trade to Ravens: ‘I let you all down’

Less than 24 hours after being traded to the Baltimore Ravens, Max Crosby said a fond farewell to the Las Vegas Raiders and their fans on his podcast “The Rush.”

“As a Raider, I gave everything I had to win…it’s been a damn journey,” Crosby said, recalling the memory of being drafted in 2019 and getting a call from then-head coach Jon Gruden. “It feels perfect.”

“Ever since I got here, I’ve had one goal and one mission, and that’s to be the best version of myself and help the Raider organization bring back a championship,” he continued. “I feel like I gave up everything I had for this team. I gave my heart and my soul and I feel like… I let all of you down, man.”

Crosby played for the Raiders for seven seasons, averaging 10 sacks per game. But the Raiders only had one winning season and made the playoffs. Going into the 2021-22 season, Las Vegas went 10-7 and lost to the Cincinnati Bengals in the wild-card round.

“This has been the most fun I’ve had playing football,” Crosby said. “It’s definitely been a journey, to say the least.”

Crosby went on to thank team owner Mark Davis for giving him the opportunity to grow as a player and supporting him when he entered rehab for alcoholism after his rookie season. He also singled out Mike Mayock, the general manager who drafted him.

The five-time Pro Bowler also emphasized his love for Raiders fans and said the circumstances that led to his trade were a “whirlwind.”

“You guys have always supported me through it all; the ups and downs,” he said. “Passion. I understand people have opinions and people are going to be upset. You have every right to be upset. I totally understand that because you’re passionate about the game, you love this team and this organization and you want to have a winner, just like I do.”

Crosby said he had “no ill will” toward the Raiders, but fans and the media may notice that he didn’t thank minority owner Tom Brady until the end, referring to him as “Brady” among the ownership group.

Crosby also didn’t mention Brady’s longtime assistant Alex Guerrero, who currently serves as the team’s “wellness coordinator.” Crosby and other Raiders players are reportedly “frustrated” with Guerrero and his role in the organization, according to Mike Silver of The Athletic.

However, after praising the work of Raiders strength and conditioning coach Rick Slater and trainer Rick Grant, Crosby said he was “very excited” to join the Ravens and help them win a Super Bowl.

“It’s time to start a new chapter,” he said.
