It’s not even clear if the Dallas Mavericks will keep Marvin Bagley on their roster after trading Anthony Davis from the Washington Wizards.

But not only did they fail to buy out Bagley. He also impressed in his debut for the team.
Bagley had 16 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night.
This is the first time in a decade that a Mavericks player has put together so many numbers off the bench, and David Lee was the last to do it.
It was also a fascinating statement from Bagley immediately.
This is a man who has been considered a loser his entire career. That same year, Luka Doncic was selected with the 2nd overall pick in the NBA Draft, joining the Mavericks with the 3rd overall pick.
Bagley wasn’t a bad player, but he never looked dominant or had an impact on wins.

Heck, even on Saturday night, his big game ended badly.
But all Bagley could do was try to prove he was still a significant contributor in the NBA, and he did.
If the Mavericks continue to give Bagley opportunities, he’s going to have to continue to prove that he can have nights like this. That might keep him going longer than anyone expected.
