Mark Cuban predicts that companies will need large numbers of employees to implement artificial intelligence, creating huge opportunities for tech-savvy young people.
The tech billionaire and former “Shark Tank” investor made the prediction during an interview with tech talk show and podcast TBPN in August.
AI guru Rohan Paul shared a clip of Cuban’s weekend comments that was widely shared; Cuban himself shared three responses from other AI experts on his X feed.
Some have declared it “the most underrated clip on the internet right now.” Another way of saying this is similar to Salesforce and the millions of management and integration roles it has spawned. The third heralds a shift from general-purpose software to custom intelligence.
Cuban told TBPN that when he was 24, he would walk into companies and executives would point to their secretaries and receptionists and say they didn’t need computers. Cuban recognized this as an opportunity to sell his old-school bosses on the benefits of computers and teach them how to use them.
He said it was similar to what has happened with the latest wave of technology, which some believe will render millions of human workers obsolete and trigger mass unemployment.
Cuban said he recommends that high school and college students not only “learn all they can about artificial intelligence, but also learn more about how to implement artificial intelligence in companies.”
Cuban, the minority owner of the Dallas Mavericks, said tens of millions of U.S. companies don’t have the budget or experts for artificial intelligence.
“That’s where kids who get hired out of college really have a unique opportunity,” he said. He added that they should use their free time to learn how to use different AI tools, create AI videos and customize AI models so they can teach business leaders in any industry how to leverage the technology.
“This is every job for kids coming out of school because every company needs it,” Cuban said. “It’s not intuitive for a company to integrate artificial intelligence, and that’s what people don’t understand.”
Cuban emphasized that the opportunities are not limited to software engineers. He said many older workers are “afraid” of asking complex questions to AI models, unlike “kids walking out of school today who are fearless in their ability to ask questions, follow up and prompt.”
“This is work for everyone,” he added.
