Manchester United target prioritising summer move to Real Madrid

Real Madrid are planning to sign a new midfielder this summer and have set out a number of targets in recent months. Rodri Hernandez, Vitinha and Chema Andres have all been linked with a move to the Bernabeu and now a new name has been added to the mix.

Real Madrid are top of the Premier League market and have failed to sign the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Trent Alexander-Arnold in recent years. Their latest signing from England could be Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães, with Los Blancos recently expressing interest in the Brazil international, according to Reuters (via ED ).

Guimarães is a player Real Madrid have been monitoring for many years and with him potentially leaving Newcastle in the summer, they are ready to attack – especially with Manchester United also in the running.

United are said to have been in talks with Guimarães’ camp for weeks, and while things were going well, the arrival of Real Madrid shook things up. The midfielder would also prefer to join Real Madrid, with Newcastle likely to prioritize a sale to a non-Premier League opponent.

Is Guimarães the answer to Real Madrid’s midfield woes?

Midfield is an area Real Madrid have struggled with since Toni Kroos retired in 2024, and the problem has continued into this season after deciding not to address the issue last summer. Guimarães could be the player to solve these dilemmas, although he doesn’t particularly bear a resemblance to the former Germany international’s profile.

Still, it remains to be seen whether Real Madrid will go ahead with their plans to bring in Guimarães during the summer transfer window. For now, they will stick to their plan and carefully consider a list of candidates that will continue to grow over time.
