Man Utd told they now ‘have to find a way’ to get deal done for ‘absolute diamond’ after his stunning performance

Although last night was overshadowed by eventual defeat at St James’ Park, United will be keeping a close eye on the fact that Manchester City dropped points.

Mainly because Elliot Anderson, one of Ineos’ priority transfer targets, had the Blues to thank for a 2-2 draw at home to Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium.

Forest responded to City’s two goals and twice equalized with goals from Antoine Semenho and Rodri before grabbing a crucial point from safety.

Anderson scored the final goal of the game in absolutely stunning fashion.

The midfielder played a quick one-two with Callum Hudson-Odoi before firing a shot from outside the area that Gianluigi Donnarumma was unable to save.

MailSport reporter Nathan Salt responded to the excellent performance on X/Twitter: “Elliott Anderson is an absolute diamond and, most importantly, a player who drives games.

“It has been Manchester United’s number one target for months. There has to be a way to get it done.”

Of course, it goes without saying that achieving this is easier said than done, but the first step in any potential coup is likely to be securing qualification for the 2026/2027 Champions League.

If Anderson does decide to part ways with Forest after two years, he will be looking to take the next step and make his mark in Europe’s most elite competition, so United will be in good standing if they can do that in the coming weeks.

The 23-year-old will also seek guarantees of game time, having become accustomed to being a mainstay at the City Ground following his £35million move from Newcastle United in 2024.

Casemiro is confirmed to be leaving when his contract expires in June, paving the way for the young and proven midfielder to become his successor.

If Anderson chooses to move to the Red Devils, he will be paired with Coby Manu in the M16 for the foreseeable future, a partnership that is likely to have an impact on England at this summer’s World Cup and beyond.
