Man arrested after large-scale illegal marijuana operation found inside home in Grafton

A man has been arrested after a massive illegal cannabis deal was discovered at a Grafton home.

A 27-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of operating an illegal cannabis growing facility in a residential area, according to police.

Other individuals linked to the grow have been identified and are expected to face similar charges, according to officials.

The arrest follows a lengthy investigation by Grafton detectives working with the Blackstone Valley Drug Task Force.

When police executed a search warrant at the home, they discovered a large number of marijuana plants, as well as evidence of a large-scale, unregulated grow operation hidden inside the home.

“These unregulated illegal grow operations pose a serious danger to our residential communities,” Grafton police said in a news release, adding that the modifications required to power these facilities create significant fire hazards that could endanger the entire community.

In other communities, similar actions have resulted in homes being destroyed or condemned due to unsafe wiring, overloaded electrical systems and structural damage.

Police also said other hazards, including hazardous chemicals, mold growth from excessive humidity and strong odors, could disrupt the quality of life for nearby homes.

The incident remains under investigation.
