A man in his 60s who raped a 72-year-old woman has been jailed for seven years.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said Vijay Chawla, of Rectory Lane, Bury, subjected his victim to a “horrendous ordeal” in Manchester in March 2023.
Chawla, 67, was found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting the same victim at Manchester Crown Court.
Police praised the woman’s courage in reporting the “horrific” attack and bringing Chawla to justice.
Special Constable Sam Cullen said: “First of all, I would like to thank the victims of this horrific incident for coming forward and reporting their abuse to us, allowing us to conduct a thorough investigation.
“Our officers will provide support, conduct thorough investigations and take firm action against offenders.
“Your allegations will be taken seriously and you will be treated with dignity and respect.”
