This NFL Draft class is filled with talent ready to make an impact at receiver. Makai Lemon’s talent, grit and ability to compete have experts believing he will be USC’s next great receiver. Many may not like his performance on the podium, but his performance on the field is undeniable, which is why he won the Biletnikov Award last season.
Rated as the best receiver in college football, that should guarantee he’s considered the top player in his class. That hasn’t been the case this offseason, as experts have swung back. Sometimes it’s Carnell Tate, sometimes it’s Jordan Tyson. When analysts analyzed the tape, Makai Lemon stood out as the receiver with the highest ceiling.

Carnell Tate, Jordan Tyson and Denzel Boston all have bigger bodies and potentially more athleticism, but it takes more than that to excel as a receiver in the NFL. Some of the top receivers in the NFL are elite and ranked highly due to their skill level and other key traits. Puka Nakua isn’t the most physically or athletically gifted guy, but he’s someone who can consistently get open. Makai Lemon embodies T. Jaxon Smith – Njigba had 1,800 receiving yards last season, and a big theme surrounding his game is that he’s a smooth runner and one of the smoothest receivers in the league.
Makai Lemon embodies the characteristics of a new wave of elite receivers who appear to be quarterback defenders. I think no matter which team Lemon joins, he will live up to the hype and expectations. That should be why he’s at the top of his class at this position.
