Olympic figure skating champion Alysa Liu is facing backlash from the right after recent interviews resurfaced as a liberal.
Liu said she and her family have participated in protests for causes such as Black Lives Matter, Stop Asian Hate, climate action and opposition to ICE, comments that surprised some MAGA supporters who embraced her during the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Liu Xiang became the most popular skater in the United States after winning a gold medal in figure skating at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Of all the athletes who weren’t immediately fawning over Trump when asked about their views on matters of their homeland, MAGA was particularly welcoming of Liu as their chosen representative for the United States.
Many people seem to be filled with regret these days. It turns out that women from immigrant families believe immigrants should have rights.
“I come from an immigrant family and I believe immigrants should have rights,” she said in a February interview.
There is certainly some truth to this, but the MAGA types either didn’t notice or were too stuck in denial to survive the recent interview.

“Thanks to my father, our family was pretty liberal,” she said.
“My family and I would go to protests…a lot of climate issues, but mostly election issues, Black Lives Matter, Stop Asian Hate, ICE protests. A lot of that stuff.”
She also favors things like fighting for justice, speaking out, and “basic human rights.” You know, standard left-wing terror.
On Friday the 13th, the right wing began to fall harder than an Olympic skater.
As these videos went viral on X (particularly the latter), some users attempted to spread the lie that the Black Lives Matter movement attacked the Stop Asian Hate protests. Alyssa Liu probably already knew it was fake and wouldn’t have seen their comments, but they continued to yell at her animated image.
“Just like that, it went from America’s sweetheart to downright disgusting,” complained @savvyquark.

User @CptAncapistan was quick to deny her agency, writing: “Wow, this teen believes what she was told to believe is shocking.”
Some of the more refined ones, like conservative columnist Caroline Downey, pretend it doesn’t bother them.
“Once again we don’t care because she didn’t bring woke BS into the Olympic arena itself,” she claimed. “She stood for the flag and draped herself in the flag after winning the gold medal, so frankly she’s still ahead of most of the left when it comes to patriotism.”
At the same time, Liu’s people were busy gloating about the misfortune.
“MAGA really thinks this girl is one of them,” said @emkenobi.
“Conservatives can’t stop hyping her up and now they know she’s been involved in BLM, climate, and Stop Asian Hate protests since she was a kid,” @cryptiq0 concluded. “Awkward.”
