U.S. figure skater Alysa Liu won gold on Thursday by skating to a long program to Donna Summer’s classic song “MacArthur Park,” much to the delight of the song’s author, Jimmy Webb.
“Alysa Liu’s energy and youth breathed another life into my song ‘MacArthur Park.’ I’m so proud to have played a small role in her inspiration,” he wrote on Instagram alongside a video of her performance. “I was so impressed with her demeanor and she once again made America proud. Congratulations on your gold medal, Alyssa!”

The late Donna Summer’s official Instagram account also recognized Liu’s performance, sharing a clip of her skating on her Instagram Story.
The Summer version of Weber’s song was released in 1978 and stayed at number one on the charts for three weeks. billboard Hot 100 and was certified double platinum by the RIAA. appear on her album Live broadcasts and morethis disco song is over eight minutes long. It earned Summer a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
