Luckhurst: ‘Expected to join’ – United tipped to announce deal on Friday as player recovers from injury just in time

Toby Collier is “expected to join” Hull City have joined Manchester United on loan ahead of Monday’s deadline, according to Samuel Luckhurst.

The move has been more than two weeks in the making, and the Tigers are ready to welcome Collier to their ranks after initially missing out on his signing last summer.

The midfielder has a number of suitors to choose from ahead of the start of the 2025/2026 season as he looks to gain significant first-team experience throughout the campaign.

He and Manchester United eventually chose West Bromwich Albion, and Collier joined West Bromwich Albion in mid-August.

While it wasn’t a complete disaster, it’s safe to say that his period didn’t have the desired effect on his senior career that United wanted.

Collier made just three starts in the Championship and made nine substitute appearances under Ryan Mason before returning to his parent club with a serious knee injury in November.

The academy graduate signed from Brighton and Hove Albion in March 2022 and reported back to Carrington in early December to undergo rehabilitation and begin his recovery.

United then officially recalled him from his loan deal at the start of the year, although the Baggies hope he will be reinstated when play resumes.

Instead, he is set to move to the MKM Stadium in the hope of doing whatever he can to help Hull City gain promotion.

The team is currently fourth in the division and locked in points with third-placed Ipswich Town.

At the end of the season, United will have to make a decision on the 22-year-old’s future and whether he will be given the opportunity to assume a starting role at Old Trafford.
