BBWAA members are tasked with voting on standard ballots, while the Veterans Committee votes on smaller ballots to determine whether those who are voted out will ultimately achieve baseball immortality.

While players like Don Mattingly and Dale Murphy hope their time in the league will help them get nominated, for players like Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens, this may be their last chance to get on the ballot.
