The coffee initiative grew out of conversations among students, specifically members of the Student Advisory Council who wanted to enhance school services.
“We were hoping to get a local spot on certain days of the year, and then we figured we could have our own spot at school,” said Avery Franklin, a senior at Beavercreek High School.

Assistant Principal Jason Scott told NewsCenter 7 that while not all requests are possible, this one is. Now, in compliance with federal guidelines on calories and caffeinated beverages, students have another option during breakfast and lunch.
“At Beavercreek City Schools, we believe strongly that we want to look out for the best interest of our students and what’s the best way to do that rather than asking them what they want to see happen because this school is more theirs than it is ours,” Scott said.
Currently, students have access to a caffeinated blend, available as hot or iced coffee, purchased with their student food account or cash. More options may be added in the future.
“It’s such a wonderful thing to feel like your voice matters and you’re leaving a lasting legacy on the school,” senior Macey Stewart said. “This is really special to me.”
